MISSION AND OUTREACH
Cambridge Presbyterian has long held together Christian formation, community life, and missional engagement. Ever since 1892, when 40 charter members purchased property at 1418 Cambridge Street, the church has had a continuous history of serving the local community and the wider world in the name of Jesus. In every chapter of the congregation's life, God has faithfully sustained the community and formed it for the next chapter of ministry and mission. The following are mission priorities and partners:
GROWING A NEIGHBORHOOD CHURCH FOR THE CITY
Youth on Fire (YOF), an outreach program of AIDS Action Committee, is a daytime drop-in center in Harvard Square serving homeless and street-involved youth aged 14 - 24. Our church prepares a monthly meal for YOF and donates sleeping bags and tents to their clients.
Boston Center for Pregnancy Choices (BCPC) is an inner city crisis pregnancy center ministering through counseling, free baby clothes and equipment, and shelter referrals.
Boston Presbytery Support is our church's per capita apportionment to support the work of the PC(USA) denomination, including provision of resources and guidance for the two dozen churches of the Presbytery of Boston.
FORMING AND SENDING CHRISTIAN LEADERS FOR CHURCH AND WORLD
The Boston Food Justice Young Adult Volunteer Program (BFJYAV) is a Presbyterian program for volunteers aged 19 - 30, who spend a year living in an intentional Christian community in the Boston area and working for food justice. In 2017-18 our church is hosted YAV Stuart Mapes who worked with Food for Free and the weekend Backpack program in Cambridge.
MIT InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (MIT-IV) and MIT Graduate Christian Fellowship provide Christian outreach to the undergraduate and graduate student bodies respectively at Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Young Life is a worldwide ministry which introduces middle school, high school, and college aged youth to Jesus Christ and helps them grow in their faith. Our church supports a Young Life missionary family in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Seminary Internship Program offers field education for a seminarian, with supervision and mentoring by one or more elders in a church. Our church has a long history of mentoring seminary interns.
